One Shoulder Story

One-shoulder garments are one of the most ancient silhouettes: knotted peplum dresses fall softly over the female body, recalling the style of ancient Greek or Roman women, dressed simply yet solemnly. For F/W 2012-13 the austerity of such garments is replaced by a contemporary and minimalist reinterpretation of the one-shoulder top.

Zac Posen’s woman looks formal in her purpledress with draping that cuts the figure in two. A classic cut for Oscar de la Renta: a mermaid one-shoulder dress with a detail which reminds of a tuxedo lapel, thanks to the two-tone black and white combination.

Basic and eclectic, the black pleated dress by Costume Nationalfeatures a single shoulder that embraces the neck like a collar.

A soft and asymmetric burnt sienna top with side fastening for Louis Vuitton that revisits this way 70s disco blouses.

Inspired by a Greek goddess, the powder pink dress by Carlos Mielefeatures a golden adornment on the shoulder.
